RUN, don't walk to your nearest Angstrom dealer with your favorite tunes
in-hand and listen to the new Modular series. I've recently listened to the
Modular 2 and it turned into an all nighter. practically listened to my whole
library. My wife was impressed as well, which is saying a lot! The phrase
that keeps repeating in my head as to how these speakers sound is "they
sound like a speaker version a Sennheiser HD600 headphone". I'm no t
kidding, the highs are smooth, the mids are PURE and SWEET, the bass is
natural but not bloated. Imaging is rock solid, and the boxes sonically
disappear. The Model 2's use a 5 inch pentacone fiberglass woofer and a
fabric dome tweeter. They have a matching sub available that becomes the
stand - simliar to Athena's system, only the Angtroms sound much better.
Great for home theater or if you have a larger room. No unsighlty black
boxes to annoy the decor-conscious partner. I could listen for hours (I think I
went to bed at 3am). The ones I listened to were black (hence the 4 stars for
cosmetics as they look too common), but they're also available in maple.
And it's not a cheesy laminate or wood veneer. It's a maple colour
that's part of cabinet material, so it never wears out (so I'm told). Anyway, it
looks a lot better than laminate. Bi-wirable too, with quality gold plated brass
binding posts, no cheap plastic screw nuts! Internally wired with AudioQuest
cable - it's about time a manufacturer started paying attention to
what goes on inside the cabinet between the components. The final
question - how much? That's the kicker, as they're only US$475/C$500 a
pair. Sheesh, I can't wait till my buddy who sings the praises of his Mini
Monitors hears them. They put them to shame! Gotta love those great
Canadian speaker products. Bravo Angstrom! :-)
